The next question, however, is will your power button wake it up once you put it to sleep? If not, you will be left with a case where you may need to SSH into the unit to wake it up. As it is asleep the keyboard will be ignored, so this might be your only way to wake it.

Oh wow, that stinks. Yeah I can't get it out of sleep mode with the power slider.
I'd be willing to completely "give up" a button to act as the power button. For example, the volume buttons which I never use. Is there any way to do this?
Edit: it appears as though it's definitely a software issue. If I move the power slider like 20 times quickly the Kindle DX reboots. It's really werid.
