Exactly what I was saying. E-ink does not emit light so why put a light emitting layer on it. If you want a glowing screen, you can get a cheaper tablet instead.

That is the very thing I am vehemently against. To enhance contrast.
There is another way to enhance contrast - to have a good external lighting, like reading outside on a sunny day. Or with a good reading lamp.
I have an array of 6 lamps, each individually adjustable, specifically for reading.
I can accept that it is convenient to use the internal lighting in emergencies,
but to keep it always on (like it is made in Kindle) to enhance contrast - it is exactly defeating the purpose of e-ink. Kindle glows in the dark. You pay a lot for e-ink so that it does not glow, and you get a glowing screen instead. Unless you use a hack to disable that glowing. It is not possible to disable it in Kindle in settings.
As far as I am concerned, I probably want to buy a kindle - it is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. Why should I miss out on a chunk of that money?
Sorry for the outburst. I see that the bosses of this forum already made a disapproving hint to me to stop preaching about not using the internal light: they put "Evangelist" below my name. Just noticed. OK, they don't like my preaching, I get it.
