I don't think toggle-all buttons for the 'New Only' checkboxes are worthwhile. But I will think it if other users step forward in favor of the idea.
I have vague recollections of a plugin that could 'lock' or write-protect columns to prevent changes, but I can't find it now.
numChapters and numWords are summed for anthology books. No, there isn't another way to use FFF to fill a chapter count column for anthologies.
Once you start modifying FFF's epubs, you are mostly on your own. To preserve modified anthology epubs, my best idea is to save the modified epubs off in another library or outside calibre first, then copy them back. There should be a way to make that work, but you'd need to experiment.
