I have SIP disabled, am running macOS Mojave 10.14.6, and calibre 5.4.2 works fine for me.[/QUOTE]
FYI 5.4.2 works for me on Catalina 10.15.7, even with SIP enabled.
(I do think it's worth running calibre-debug because it might print out the version even if the UI doesn't launch. Also, calibre-debug 5.4 did run for me even when the application wouldn't.)
