I'm also seeing this problem. iMac running 10.15.7 upgraded 4.17 to 5.4 and double-clicking on the Calibre icon in Applications does not open (no error message, no "jumping" Calibre icon in the dock indicating the app is loading, nothing). Tried restarting the iMac but the problem remains. Restored 4.17 from Timemachine and I'm back up. I'll monitor this thread looking to see when the issue is identified and resolved.
