You are saying that you can't achieve that via padding/margin? I would have thought setting l/r margins to 0 and adding some padding value would do what you're shooting for. If not (maybe lists have some quirks I'm forgetting), then maybe you could fake it with a thick border. That said I personally wouldn't do this as I'd worry about night modes and e-ink.
