New to forum, old to eBooks
Howdy. My name is Kate, and I've been around eBooks for awhile - or I should say I was around them several years ago and have recently come back.
My first eBook reader was a Franklin eBookman, which I returned after the whole MS Reader debacle and got an iPaq 3150 (monochrome) instead. I've been stuck with that for awhile, but hadn't read on it in years because it would take up to 20 minutes to load a book, by which time I was off doing something else. I also contributed a number of books to ESSPC, which I see that you link to on your site.
I've been drooling over the new e-ink readers, but found the price prohibitive, and Amazon's business model atrocious (although I can see why some people might like it). I was leery of Sony after the whole rootkit thing, but I finally broke down and bought a PRS-505 (the red one, naturally) and I have to say I love it! I've only had it a few days, but I've read more in the past few days than I have in the past few months. I find Calibre easy to use, and all my old purchases are still up at Fictionwise, so I'm good to go.
Not to mention the joys of running barefoot through the lately released Google books at the Sony store. I love old books that no one reads anymore. I'm in heaven.
This site has been a gold-mine of information, so I wanted to tell everyone thank you! I'll be around for awhile.
At least the charger on the iPaq works on the Sony.
