You're not on your own. I'm using Windows 10 64bit and I also cannot get calibre v5.3 to save my Editor layout.

I also have an installed copy of calibre v4.23 32-bit installed and the Editor's layout is saved correctly in that.

I used the 'calibre-debug -t' method to open the Editor for both tests.

I normally have both 'Live CSS' and 'Checkpoints' (as 2 tabs) docked at the bottom left position and 'Checkbook' docked at bottom right. With this set up the layout splitter widths/heights are not saved correctly.

If I use the View menu item to uncheck both 'Live CSS' and 'Checkpoints', 'Checkbook' now fills the whole bottom row and the layout splitter widths/height seem to be save correctly again.

So, I don't know whether the problem is with 'Live CSS' and/or 'Checkpoints' or the bottom left docking area in general ... or something else entirely.
