1) what OS (seeing Calibre 2.85, I assume a really old MAC)
2) What model number of a Kindle? Your version of Calibre may not be able to detect newer models.
3) did you try the common fixes (not you may lose your bookmarks and reading status). First do a full reboot of the Kindle and see if that cures it
