I was thinking there was something about the upscaling/downscaling, but in the end it also comes down to resolution.

I am assuming 16 is the number of colors it can display and it should be the same for all
E-ink Carta displays. But a picture's worth 1K words, so there:
I didn't realize e-ink uses so few colours... I guess it's enough for casual reading (which is what I'm after), but it's a shame we can't have more.
This person was able to increase it to 32, but I'm guessing it's no easy feat.
