Sorry for my tardyness. I installed 5.2 on a Windows 10 machine - that is where the problem arose. On a note PC running Windows 7 I was told, Calibre does not support that OS any longer. There it is Version 4.15 (I think). That one is also installed on the Windows 10 machine at my work place. On a Linux Mint 19 machine it its Version 4.13.
On my Windows 10 machine at home (the problem machine) I just installed the 64-bit version over the previously installed 32-bit version. No change.
I do not really "use" calibre, but have it installed on my different computers for years, update it regularly and never experienced any problem with "searching" for books.
I just disabled the antivirus software to see, whether that does do something. It does not.
I just turned of "highlight search results" (although the results were not highlighted). This seems to have improved (solved?) the problem.
So, please consider my question being answered = problem solved.
I might be asking more questions later. Please bear with me.
