As to the format, you don't need any format in the library to match the book. I add books with no formats for books that I borrow from the library that appear directly on my Kobo devices. That way I can track what I have read without actually having the book permanently.

Or, have I completely misunderstood this. Is the issue that the KFX books aren't appearing in the device list? That could explain things. But, that doesn't sound like the issue from what you have said. And that is why I ask questions and hope for detailed answers.

Sorry. I just now saw this.

What am I doing exactly.
  1. 1.Plugging in my device.
  2. Waiting for the Device to update, books to list.
  3. Clicking on Device View
  4. Looking at the list of books
  5. Clicking on a book that isn't listed in the library (no green check)
  6. Clicking "Match to Library"
  7. Clicking "Ok"
  8. *no match* - *no books listed to match*
  9. Shortening the title so that the series isn't listed
  10. Click "OK"
  11. *no match* - *no books listed as possible matches* - *blank*
  12. typing in the Author Name
  13. Click "OK"
  14. *6 books by that author, but not the one I want*
  15. Groan in frustration.
  16. Update Cached metadata on device
  17. open "Configure Device"
  18. clear out "template to save books"
  19. restart Calibre
  20. Load books
    repeat

Note: Books that have already matched to the libary often will not match up manually.
Also, books from Amazon that have EXACT title and author MAY match, but never if they need to be retyped.

If a book can be clicked on and have a match show up in the first attempt, then fine, but if I have to retype it then it won't match. Only books purchased outside of Amazon and sent to my Kindle seem to match. Also, books that have a green check mark indicating a match in the libary will not manually match up if I want to have them show up in the device view.

Meaning: A book has a green checkmark indicating it is in the libary. However, in Device View it is shown as a blank book, maybe the name or some metadata, but until I "match this book to the libary" it won't show anything else. I am unable to "match this book to the libary" even if there is a green checkmark.

LAST THING:

Does having Calibre run in two different instances (4.7 32 and 4.23 64) for the same libary make a difference? I looked at the Calibre Metadata or Drive Metadata files on my device, and made sure that the same Calibre version was the one I was trying to match up in my libary.
