I’ve got really bad arthritis, so it is more difficult for me to operate it than most people. Even with a 3rd party neoprene case it is way too thin and I constantly have issues with the touchpad portion not doing what I meant for it to do. Form over function sucks in this case. I think the best standard issue remote for a streaming device is the one that comes with a Roku. They are fatter, nicely rounded to fit my hand grip, nonslip surface, and the right amount of easy to use buttons. The remote that comes with the FireTV is second, but I did have to add a neoprene cover due to slippery surface and it is a bit too thin. Apple TV 4K remote comes in a distant third, better than the Apple TV 3rd gen remote though. That one reminded me of the final moments of a bar of soap just before it totally melts away!
As for 5G, I’m the same. I rarely use the iPhone XR for surfing the web, especially as far as streaming video goes, so LTE more than suffices. Mostly I use WiFi with my iPhone XR so cellular speed is rarely an issue.
