There are two ways to power down a non jailbroken kindle. Both have undesirable aspects.

1. Let the battery run down until the kindle powers itself off.

2. Use the ;shpm search bar command

But beware that this will remove all user configuration and data (including books
and registration).

There are multiple quick and easy was to power off a jailbroken kindle.
