This is sort of an odd cross-post, based on a pretty strong recommendation for Will Wight's Cradle series from Ilona of the Ilona Andrews duo. According to the IA blog, it's mostly martial arts with just the "merest hint of romance": https://ilona-andrews.com/2020/unsouled-by-will-wight/

But, since some folks here follow this duo, I thought I'd cross-post based on her recommendation.
