No, there isn't on at least a PW3, DXG and older Basics and Kindle Keyboard. The apparent power off is merely a blank screen. The old Binatones, Sony PRS, some others and Kobo Touch, H2O, Libra etc do turn off.

The Kindles thus will need charged occasionally if unused. Maybe once a month. They may really turn off when the battery flat warning screen appears, but I'm not sure. Certainly then the clock is wrong.

The Kobo, Sony and Binatone obviously keep the clock running, but that's miniscule current. Even the original IBM AT clock might have run for 5 years on a set of AA Alkaline cells, though often an NiCd pack was used till they changed to coin Cells. The fat CMOS clock/settings module, often Odin Brand had the Lithium coin cell encapsulated and died after about 10 years. I've filed off the connections to that and glued a CR2032 holder to get old PCs going in the past. Some won't even go to setup screen if the battery is flat.
