Y'know, if the book is on KU and you subscribe, you could read it and that author would get probably something like $12 as opposed to the ~$0.35 a purchase would get.
(IIRC a KENP is about half a printed page, and the author gets paid a fluctuating amount currently a bit over $0.004 per KENP read up to 3000 per book)
