Whatever the market will bear. Personally, I just add books to my wish list and wait for them to go on special offer. My average cost for purchased ebooks so far this year is £1.79, and last year was £1.49.
(There are several sites that will keep a wish list for you and send you an email when the price drops below your target price. I mainly use
http://uk.ereaderiq.com/ which is Amazon only, but there's also
http://luzme.com/ which tracks multiple stores, and probably others I don't know about.)
