The page you quote is for the general jailbreak method.

This thread is for the special case of PW3 at less than or equal to 5.9.6.1 so You can use the method in the first post in this thread.

Besides, you can turn off the sleep mode without jb: enter ~ds into the search on the homescreen.
But jb makes possible much easier ability to restore sleep mode.
