I am frankly uncomfortable with even calling this censorship, as has been pointed out above. We are not talking about what a facist goverment will allow to be said or published. I believe we are talking about writing what sells vs writing what you want because it is how you believe as per the OP.

I respect any author's right to write whatever the hell they want. I presume they respect my right to voice my opinion on that work either with my words or my wallet.

As an attorney, I have done work on projects such as the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) which defends reader and author rights. And I would not have ANY interest in reading some of the material involved in those cases.

Free speech is free speech, even if I don't like what is being said. But that is not the same as an author chosing deliberately not to write what he wants becuase he believes it won't sell.
