In the last 10 years, I've had two Windows laptops, one running Windows 7, the other first on Windows 7, then on Win 10 Pro. If the OP has a large ebook library, then it definitely does sound like a cheap Windows laptop might be a viable option, and one much simpler than many Apple users assume it to be.
