Why would you split up 4000 books? That's a small library.
I have over 20 000 all in one library. True, I've fixed metadata and formatting as I buy them, but there have been periods I haven't had the time and accumulated a queue of hundreds of books. Still, I fail to see how splitting the library would help anything. I just sort by date, newest first, and start on top.
