Any Chance Calibre Will Support Direct DOC Conversion?

So, this has been requested in the past, and denied, but it would be nice if Calibre supported direct conversion from DOC files. The standard answer seems to be "Save as HTML, then convert", but if that were the case there would be no need to support direct conversion of TXT, RTF, etc.

I realize the DOC format is a nightmare, so I can understand if this might not be something that would be considered for another year, but is it something that's ever likely to happen or should people just be told "No, stop asking"?
