I've used various Kindles and one Kobo since 2009. The "white/yellow" variations of the screens is normal IMO. The screens have all been different in how white or off white they looked. I have currently 2 new Paperwhite and one 2017 Oasis, and they are all different.

And there is no way incandescent lights are used. I no longer have my Kobo, I sold it, but it was yellowish when compared to my Oasis.

I should mention this difference never made reading uncomfortable. If I hadn't compared them side by side, I wouldn't have been bothered by it.
