That sounds like stage1 bootloader. Did you flash a bootloader (uboot) compatible with your Kobo Mini?.

I'm afraid you need both the bootloader and the kernel tailored for your device. The debian rootfs should work as is.

Not sure if u-boot was hacked for this version but, IIRC, the kernel was modified to add multitouch B support, so stock kernel won't work as intended as the X11 input driver was crafted after the kernel change.
