Except they weren’t. In GadgetGuys case the phantom books were from the hacked registration method he used. Which is why they weren’t behaving as actual books.

The device wasn’t still connected to a previous account nor is it actually likely that it ever was registered before GadgetGuy got it. This is all covered in this thread and in specific detail in one of David’s posts here.

Had GadgetGuy waited until the kobo servers were up and running he’d never have had his phantom book issue.
