Are you using an Onyx Boox? I have Moon+ Pro on my Note2, and the way I back out of a book is to press the "Back Button". From the Onyx Boox Note2 manual, p10., the "Back Button":
⚫Exit the current apps;
⚫Exit the current view or dialog;
⚫Go back to previous directory

Note that on my Android tablet, I also need to use the "Back" function to exit a book, back out of a sub menu, or exit the app.

Agree with your comments about Moon, it's a fabulous reader, with lots of great features, but in desperate need of a good user manual.
