1. When you open the beta version of Calibre to open the book, what does it say on the bottom-left of the window? It should say "calibre 4.99.13 created by Kovid Goyal."
If it doesn't, you may be opening an older version of Calibre already installed on your computer instead of the portable version.
2. I've attached a free book I used as one of my test cases for vertical writing support. Does it exhibit the same problem for you?
If so, would you please describe in detail how you got to the issue? For example, did you use ebook-viewer-portable.exe or calibre-portable.exe? Once you opened those, what was the next step? And would you please attach a picture of the problem?
3. If the test book works fine, and you are sure that you're using the beta version, I would need you to send me the book you're having trouble reading and I can try to debug it locally.
