I'm not sure it is "that easy." I've been using Kindles since 2009 and have never broken a screen. I've dropped them, had one go flying across the floor when I dropped it. I do keep them in rigid cases, and am careful with them.

But, you can't lean on them, sit on them, toss them into a book bag with heavy books, etc. You have to take care of them like any piece of electronics that you pay $100+ for.

Some people are just hard on stuff. You (general you) would know this about yourself and should act accordingly. Buy the extended warranty or a beefy case, if you're a person who has the habit of breaking your stuff.
