I would tend to agree that for note taking devices, a screen protector is a sensible precaution.
The stock screen protector for the Max 2 Pro (which I purchased recently from Ereader Store) also gave me lots of small bubbles underneath. I used an old credit card to push most of them out towards the edges. It still looks dreadful when the light catches from certain angles, as the remaining bubbles cast dark grey shadows on the screen. Still, I'd rather have it on the screen for protection. It's a pity really because it has a nice matt finish and gives a certain toothiness to the writing feel. I ordered some additional matt screen protectors from Protection Films to replace the stock one - hopefully I'll have fewer problems installing...
I also own a Nova Pro which has a glass screen. However I still installed a matt screen protector, primarily to reduce glare: the stock film was a bit too glossy. I found it much easier to install and remove bubbles when applying to a glass screen than to the flexible Moebius screen: maybe the surface of the plastic screen is less smooth, leading to bubbles, and maybe the relative softness means it's more tricky to squeeze them to the edges?
