Any way to revive dead Kindle?

I have a 32G Kindle Oasis which is about 2 years old. The other day I opened the cover, and it crashed while closing the screensaver and opening the book I was reading. I now have the screensaver on the right hand side of the screen and a patch of white with vertical black lines on the left.

I tried resetting it (press power and hold: power light is green, then flashes orange a few times before going out) but nothing changed except that the backlight came on and went off again after a while. I tried this several times, with the same lack of result.

I plugged it into my computer, and though I didn't get the "USB connected" screen, I could access it without any trouble. I downloaded "My Clippings.txt", then left it for a day. The following day, I tried resetting it again, but now the power light comes on green, then goes out -- no flashing orange any more.

I'm now waiting for the battery to go flat in the hope that it will reset itself when it loses power.

Does anyone know of anything else I could try? I'm reading books on my phone now, which is less than satisfactory, but I don't want to spend money on a replacement until I've exhausted all the possibilities.
