Ummm.... Jon, did you read the words "Windows 7/8 install was 32 bit and Windows 10 only supports the CPU in 64 bit mode"? Check Intel's Does My Intel® Processor Support Microsoft Windows® 10? page for example.

While not common, I've run into 6 or 7 devices where the OEM installed Windows 7/8/8.1 x86 leaving no upgrade path to Windows 10 other than a clean install.
