I think I may have solved the problem. I wondered if a file had become corrupted during the upgrade, so I plugged the kindle into my PC and moved all the files out of the doc folder into a backup folder on my PC. The doc folder is now empty. I then tried restarting the kindle and it is now working and is showing 5.13.2 firmware Fortunately I don't keep many books on my kindle.
