The cost can be a concern, but there are often bursaries to help. The big advantage to uniforms is that everyone wears the same thing, reducing the level of stigma attached to those who can't afford the latest fad, and putting everyone on a level playing field. Not being able to wear what's "cool", or afford multiple outfits to wear something different every day can be a serious problem for children.
