Since I am trying to update meta tags after an issue it's a bit daunting because my library is big.
This is a topic that comes up again and again. AO3 and Fanfiction.net in particular are known for throttling or blocking network addresses that they see 'too much' traffic from.

To briefly recap, we don't know what what exactly the limit for 'too much' is, nor do we know how long it takes for a throttle/block to expire.

You can set slow_down_sleep_time in personal.ini under [archiveofourown.org] to a longer value like 4 or more (default is 2 seconds) and that will frequently help. Otherwise, people have had success just doing smaller batches and/or less often updates, or changing network by using a VPN.
