Kobo Touch boot loop

So I was syncing a Kobo Touch with Kobo Desktop.

Firmware updated, wait for sync to complete, eject reader. Folow instructions and disconnect. Updating starts, but then seems to freeze mid update. I re-connect to the computer via usb, still nothing doing. Reader does not mount on computer.

Try to power down, nothing. Press reset button on back, it restarts, but is now stuck on boot sequence, but never completes: just the three dots cycling from left to right. Have reset several times now and no joy. Cannot power off the device either.

Correction: have now managed to power off the device.

Anyone have suggestions as to a possible fix?
