Amazon has skipped firmware updates before. For example, there was a FW 5.10.1.2, 5.10.1.3 and 5.11.1 for the PW4 but not the PW3. No statements were made regarding future updates but there was also no fear mongering back then that the PW3 has been EOLed.

Besides, I doubt majority of Amazon's customers even care if they make a statement regarding continued FW updates or not. As long as their Kindles work as normal, they're content.
