From your image it looks like the file name is being truncated so that the end is lost, including the ".azw3" extension. I don't have a Mac, but when I download the free sample of that book in Windows it comes down with the rather long file name of:

A Furious Sky_ The Five-Hundred-Year History of America's Hurricanes.azw3

Perhaps you could try renaming the file after download, before importing it into calibre.


Added: You should also check the size of the downloaded file to see if it is in the right ballpark. If not, you could try using a different web browser for the download.
