Yeah, that's what I suspected.
I noticed one odd thing, that when the wall charger is plugged in the "Connect to computer" dialogue comes up. Maybe a different cable would make a difference? However this cable charges phones and other devices with no probems, and is clearly booting up the reader so power is getting through, just not to the battery it seems.
