So yes, once I switched Authors to last name, the highlight went away. Nice to know, though I tend not to use the Authors tab anyway. Which probably explains why it was on the default options. Aside from that the only difference in that area is with Books having a filter option but I can understand how the options there would be problematic for authors, series, and collections so it makes sense to leave that as solely a "Books" option.

The other difference I can see is the menu at the top right of the list. The Author list doesn't have it. I assume Kobo left it off because there isn't anything specific to the Authors list. They don't have a cover view or anything like that. I've actually commented to Kobo about that as I feel that if the "Manage books" and "Manage downloads" menu items are on the Series tab, they should also be on the Authors tab.

Yes, this is something I had also mentioned briefly. Authors is the only tab that lacks this menu and it seems odd that it would. It also seems odd it would lack a cover view or covers in list view, not that I'd fight for it to be added to Authors or to Collections.

There is room for the page number on that line. Probably immediately to the left of the menu. It is about the only place it can go and be fairly consistent. But, there is some thing about it that I just don't like. Maybe that it would be mixing menu items with changing information on the same line.

Agreed, the placement there only works in the sense of space, but not in the sense of any kind of good UI/UX. It'd be off center, with no real indication that it applied to the pages of the collection. Sure it wouldn't be terribly hard to figure out, but it wouldn't be obvious for the average user. Also it'd just look bad IMO.
