I'm not sure how. In another post you said something about "sort options in a non-fat pill selection" which seemed to imply that it was different on the Authors list. The "pill selection" means you have selected an option other than the default. I'm guessing that you have the Author tab sorted by "Last name", which is the default. If I choose "Number of books", it is highlighted in the same way as selecting that on the collections list.
The other difference I can see is the menu at the top right of the list. The Author list doesn't have it. I assume Kobo left it off because there isn't anything specific to the Authors list. They don't have a cover view or anything like that. I've actually commented to Kobo about that as I feel that if the "Manage books" and "Manage downloads" menu items are on the Series tab, they should also be on the Authors tab.
There is room for the page number on that line. Probably immediately to the left of the menu. It is about the only place it can go and be fairly consistent. But, there is some thing about it that I just don't like. Maybe that it would be mixing menu items with changing information on the same line.
