At least down to 10°C has been fine on all my eink, inc Kindle PW3, Kindle DXG,Sony PRS350, original H2O and Libra.
We don't waste energy on heating, so we have little heat at night and house day time is 18 to 20 except in hot weather. Air con is virtually unknown here except in larger shops. I've used it outdoors at 10°C to 16°C.
It sounds like something is broken.
