I don't have any anti-virus except the Windows Defender that comes with Windows 10. And I've had that all along. And as for 32-bit and 64-bit -- yikes! I'm an amateur!! Should I be uninstalling Calibre and reinstalling something other version??
I did try the stuff that Kovid says but I'm not sure I did it right (didn't appear to help anyway ...) and I'm a bit reluctant to start messing around with system files in case I make things worse.
None of this makes sense to me since it was all running fine till two days ago!
