The repositories for Linux Mint (one example, what I use) are way out of date. Linux Mint 19.3 has Calibre 3.21 in its repository. The current version of Calibre is 4.22. Huge difference.

...and just follow the instructions for installation.
It's just copy and paste into the terminal and run the command(s). You should only have to run the first command if your libraries are new enough. If not you'll have to run one of the other commands. (but only once).
