I don't think mobi has the capability to retain that type of metadata. I believe you have to convert to azw3. And even then, it really depends on the app you're using to read with.

You can always use a plugboard to get things how you want. That's what I do to get the series name and number. Here's the link to Chaley's plugboard thread/tutorial:
