I have a Kindle and yes, eBook management is terrible.

If the OP can give up syncing, then the Pocketbook is the best choice. What I do is I have different book on different devices and that works. Maybe that would work for the OP.

If the OP is willing to give up PDF and Manga then a Kindle Oasis would be the best choice for a Kindle.
