@patrik: No NM configs are overwritten, as there aren't actually any in a stock NM package.
(That's a subtle hint that the doc shipped w/ NM is just that, a doc, don't write stuff in it).

That said, there should almost never be need to install the stock NM package when using OCP. In fact, I highly recommend that you don't, because they're not built with the self-destruct flag like the build used for OCP.
The 4.23 thing was a highly irregular occurrence in that I wasn't actually available when it came out. Otherwise, we generally manage to keep stuff in sync and ship NM updates in OCP in a matter of hours.
