Some books don't have anything in the tags field. And I sometimes like to stumble onto books in my library by looking through one book's tags and finding other books that share a tag.
As I have already explained, tags can be a real mess if you go with what's in the OPF and download them. The solution for the tags is to use tags you put in. I delete any tags that get put in by the eBook and f I want any tags, I put in what works for me. I don't like the auto-populated tags. I don't download metadata because all I need to know if if the book is in a series, what the series name is and I copy/page the full description. I do download a proper hi-res cover if needed. But any metadata errors, I fix by hand so I know it's correct.
