I have a Paperwhite 3 and a Paperwhite 4. These are also called Paperwhite 7 and Paperwhite 10 by Amazon but everybody else calls them the 3rd and 4th generation Paperwhite, which they really are.
I have 20/20 vision and I can't see any real difference in the screens. Or, more realistically, I can see as much difference in the individual units as in the models. I have 2 Paperwhite 3's and 3 Paperwhite 4's.
The Paperwhite 4 has a sunken screen with raised bezels making it a bit easier to hold without accidentally turning pages. The Paperwhite 4 has a flush screen and is waterproof. Frankly I don't see a lot of difference in reading with them. They're more similar than they're different.
I haven't seen an Oasis or a basic Kindle so I can't really comment on those. Personally I think the Paperwhite is the one that makes the most sense as a compromise between price and practicality for someone like me who reads novels almost exclusively.
