I'm finally catching up on getting nominations into the spreadsheet for searching and wanted to comment on this one specifically.
If you have not read Ken Liu's
Paper Menagerie, stop what you're reading and take a few minutes to read it. Or, if you prefer, about 45 minutes to
listen to it.
It's only ~15 pages, is available free online as text or an excellent audio version from LeVar Burton, and is a wonderful story. Full stop. It is a bit of a tear jerker, you've been warned. I haven't read the rest of the stories in the collection but the title story is excellent and deserved all of the awards it received. (Catlady - yes, this is fantasy but I hope you'll give it a try too. I can't recommend it enough.)
